Customers want an iPhone-compatible means to learn more about... bats? Wildlife Acoustics has the "right equipment" designed specifically for iDevices-- the Echo Meter Touch 2.

The device is, essentially, a highly sensitive microphone with a Lightning connector. One simply needs to plug it into the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch before firing up a free companion app. The microphone picks up ultrasonic bat calls, while the app adds amplification (making them audible to human ears), displays an interactive spectrogram and even determines the kind of bat making the call in question.

In addition, users can create a bat call library complete with Google Maps GPS tags, and can even share recordings with other Echo Meter Touch users.

The idea behind the Mokase is equal parts intriguing and unlikely-- a smartphone case able to make to produce a tiny shot of espresso, wherever and whenever one wants it.

To produce the espresso, the Mokase uses a built-in battery to heat a special "wafer" cartridge to 50-60 degrees Celsius. Starting the coffee-making process simply requires slotting the cartridge in the case before summoning an obligatory companion app.

After a "few seconds" the case pumps the espresso through a pipe made out of a aluminium-silicon pipe able to handle heat without releasing toxins. The maker does not specify the kind of coffee found inside the cartridge, but it does say it produces a 25ml shot (a standard espresso is 29ml).

Polar presents an update on the flagship M400 running shop-- the M430, a wearable featuring wrist-based heart rate sensors within a slightly thinner and lighter design.

The M400 is very similar to its predecessor, consisting of a rounded-square module with 5 physical buttons and a soft-touch perforated silicone strap reminiscent of that included with the Nike Apple Watch Series 2. The module weighs 51g and carries 6 LED lights for optical heart rate sensing, built-in GPS, 240mAh battery and a monochrome display.

Belkin announces an addition to the Mixit DuraTek durable cable line-- a USB-C cable featuring Kevlar-reinforced conductors and double-braided nylon shielding on the outside.

The USB-C cable is certified by both the USB Implementers Forum, and includes a 5-year limited warranty. The length is 1.2m, and it comes in pink, gold, silver and black colours. The Kevlar used in the conductors is the same used in a broad range of industrial and consumer products, while longer, flexible strain-relief absorbs stress from bending, avoiding breakage.
