Intel Reveals Studybook Design

  • PDF

Intel announces an addition to the Classmate education-aimed product family-- the Studybook, a tablet it describes as "a student's rugged window to the world."

StudybookCurrently available as a reference design, the Studybook has most of the features one expects in a device for younger customers. It is a 7" (1024x600) Atom-powered tablet running on either Android 3.0 or Windows 7 with 1GB of RAM. Storage ranges from 4-32GB to a 128GB SSD.

Construction is in plastic with a rubber band reinforcing the bezel, and can apparently withstand drops of up to 70cm.

It also has a variety of ports (all with protective rubber gasketing)-- USB 2.0, HDMI, headphone jack and microSD/SIM slots.

Educational software is also important-- pre-loaded applications will include classroom management, the LabCam scientific suite and an optimised e-reader, all within a friendly UI.

Intel claims OEMs will be able to sell Studybook tablets for $200 or less (even if Intel doesn't actually set prices), and gives no word on when the tablet will be actually available for sale.

Kaspersky launches an Android tablet protection security-- Kaspersky Tablet Security, providing protection against malicious and fraudulent software and a solution in case of lost or stolen devices.

Kaspersky securityThe anti-virus engine works with cloud-based protection technology, which Kaspersky claims blocks all (including new and previously unknown) malicious programs. A Web Protection feature also blocks fraudulent websites from accessing personal data on your customers' devices.

Tablet Security can also block lost or stolen devices, as well as wipe all personal data. It also locates devices through GPS, mobile network data (GSM) or the coordinates of the nearest wifi access points, while a Mugshot function secretly takes photos (using built-in camera) of whoever is using a stolen device.

Kaspersky says the program's UI is specifically suited for Android-based tablets, and a web management feature allows users to remotely access and control tablets via web interface.

MobileCinema i20

Under their sub-brand MobileCinema, Aiptek’s i20 is the smallest plug-n-play pico projector to iPhone. With its cookie size, the MobileCinema i20 is a two-in-one gadget that projects the phone contents-- and charges the phone.

Plug it in an iPhone with the 30pin connector, and it will provide nearly two hours projection up to 50” display by 1.6 meters in a relatively dim environment. The projection resolution can reach1080p Full HD (960x540). Regardless of many restrictions upon iPhone’s 30pin connection during projection, the MobileCinema i20 allows iPhone users to do the typical Apple pinch and slide control functions on their iPhones as they normally do.

It even turns an iPhone into a visualizer that shows what the iPhone camera sees onto a wall real time.

Besides i20, there is the MobileCinema i50S: an iPhone 4/4S sleeve pico projector. Just slide your iPhone 4/4S into i50S and your iPhone 4/4S seamlessly becomes projector-enabled. 50 lumens DLP optic light engine.
