The Highest Resolution 5.7-inch AMOLED

AU Optronics develops what it claims is the highest resolution 5.7-inch AMOLED display around-- a WQHD (aka quad HD) panel able to handle resolutions as high as 2560x1440 at pixel densities of 513ppi.

display Prototypes of similar displays have been seen from LG Display and Japan Display, but AUO is the first to manage such resolutions within an AMOLED panel. The technology superior images and sharper colours, as well as reduced energy consumptions.

AUO says the panel is also just 0.57mm thick, and uses in-cell touch technology for superior sensitivity with support for up to 10 touch points.

WSJ: June Release for Amazon Smartphone

Not content with releasing an Apple TV rival Amazon sets to announce a smartphone on June 2014 The Wall Street Journal reports-- a device reportedly featuring a "holographic" glasses-free 3D display.

Hologram phoneFollowing the announcement the smartphone should ship by end September 2014, the WSJ continues.

The 3D display is part of an Amazon effort to "distinguish [the] phone in a crowded market," and uses 4 front-facing eye-tracking cameras to generate the 3D effect. Such an approach is unlike the one found in the Nintendo 3DS, which employs simpler parallax-barrier LCDs.

Nokia Intros Windows Phone 8.1 Handsets

BUILD 2014 involves more than talk on the future of Windows-- Nokia uses the Microsoft conference to announce a trio of Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone 8.1, the latest version of the OS.

Lumia 930The smartphones in question are the Lumia 930, 635 and 630. All promise "the best of Lumia and the best of Microsoft" with enhanced camera and social apps, improved keyboard, the Siri virtual assistant and "SensorCore" low-power sensing technology.

The Lumia 930 is the flagship model, featuring a 5-inch ClearBlack display, 20MP PureView camera with Zeiss optics, 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU inside metal and polycaronate casing.

Bayonet Mounts in Future iPhones?

According to the recently revealed US Patent No. 8687299 future iPhone models might become just a bit more interesting to budding photographers via bayonet mount mechanism allowing the attachment of different camera lens accessories.

iPhone camera First filed on 2012, the simply titled "Bayonet Attachment Mechanisms" describes a iPhone-size version of the lens attachment mechanism found in many modern cameras. The mount aligns and securely attaches a lens to the device body while still allowing for a slim device profile.

The patent describes the integration of a bayonet-style mount in the rear-facing camera bezel, with the mount protruding just slightly from the device body. To attach a lens, one simply aligns it with a guide dot before rotating in place.

HTC Updates One Smartphone

HTC launches the next version of the One flagship smartphone, the One (M8), a larger 5-inch model featuring identical aluminium unibody construction to the 2013 model if with even more metal.

HTC OneAccording to the company the body is 90% aluminium, compared to the 70% of the previous model. The edges are also more-rounded and the finish is brushed, not matte.

The 5-inch display is 1920x1080 resolution, while powering all are a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2G RAM, 16/32G storage (expandable to 128GB via microSD slot) and a 2600mAh battery.
