Sony Upgrades Xperia Z at IFA

The best-selling Sony smartphone yet, the Xperia Z, gets a sequel at IFA 2013-- the Xperia Z1, a 5-inch smartphone packing a boosted camera complete with 27mm G lens, 20.7MP Exmor CMOS image sensor and BIONZ image processing engine.

Xperia Z1Further camera features include an "Info-eye" visual search function, a Timeshift burst mode (takes 61 images in 2 seconds) and cloud-based image sorting and storage via PlayMemories Online.

The CPU also gets an improvement with a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, while making a return from the Xperia Z is the 1920 x 1080 Trilumonous display.

The OS of choice is Android 4.2.2, and other specs include 2GB RAM, 16GB storage (expandable via microSD slot) and NFC connectivity, all inside a water- and dust-resistant (IP55 and IP58) one-piece aluminium frame with a tempered glass front and back.

The Xperia Z1 should be available by end September 2013 in black, white or purple.
