HMD Global announces the first 5G Nokia smartphone-- the Nokia 8.3 5G, a "global, future-proof" handset set, together with the mid-range Nokia 5.3 and 1.3 and another reissue of a classic feature phone, the Nokia 5310.
Designed with support for multiple 5G network deployments, the Nokia 8.3 5G is the first device using the Qualcomm 5G RF Front end module solution. Part of the Snapdragon 765G chipset, it condenses over 40 RF components into a single module, allowing for future-proof connectivity. Also found in the 765G are two Cortex A76 cores and six A55 cores, making it slower than the highest-end Snapdragon SoC, the 865.
In other features making the Nokia 8.3 5G, the device has a 6.8-inch 2400 x 1080 LCD display, 6/8GB RAM, 64/128GB storage (expandable via microSD slot) and a 4500mAh battery. Connectivity comes through USB-C, and a 3.5mm jack is included. A big circular bump on the rear houses a quad-camera setup consisting of a 64MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP depht sensor and a 2MP macro lens. On the front is a 24MP selfie camera.
The company also has a duo of mid-range smartphones, the Nokia 5.3 and 1.3. A successor to the 2018 Nokia 5.1, the 6.55-inch Nokia 5.3 runs on the Snapdragon 665 SoC and promises two days of use on a single charge of the 4000mAh battery. Meanwhile the Nokia 1.3 runs on stripped-down Android 10 Go and includes a 5.7-inch display and a Snapdragon 250 processor.
The final handset is the Nokia 5310. Based on the 2007 "candybar" phone of the same name, it runs on the Nokia Series 30+ OS and, according to the company, offers one month of standby use. It also includes an integrated FM antenna.
The Nokia 5310 is the first device to ship on March 2020. The Nokia 5.3 and 1.3 follow on April, with the 8.3 shipping last on Q3 2020.
