Sony skips a few generations at IFA 2019 as it announces the Xperia 5-- a followup to the flagship Xperia 1 featuring a display in the same 21:9 aspect ratio, if within a "relatively compact" body.

Sony Xperia 5The Xperia 5 was teased to be small enough to fit "in the palm of your hand," and as such is smaller handset compared to other flagship smartphones. It features a 6.1-inch 2560 x 1080 resolution "CinemaWide" AMOLED display complete with HDR and the upscaling of standard dynamic range content, and includes Dolby Atmos support via stereo speakers.

Inside are a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB RAM, 12GB storage and a 3140mAh battery. The back houses a triple-lens camera array, with a main 12MP sensor paired with a f/1.6 aperture 12mm lens, a 52mm f/2.4 telescopic lens and a 16mm f/2.4 wide-angle lens, plus the same Eye auto-focus technology from Sony Alpha cameras. Another interesting feature is backed-in support for the PS4 DualShock 2 controller and Remote Play, making the Xperia 5 something of a games machine.

The Xperia 5 ships in European markets on October 2019.
