Powerbeats Get Pro Update

Apple follows the 2nd generation AirPods with an alternative set of wireless earbuds from the Beats stable-- the Powerbeats Pro, a wireless redesign of the fitness-oriented Powerbeats earbuds.

Powerbeats ProThe Powerbeats Pro promise an "ergonomically angled acoustic housing" able to fully seal the ears to ensure outside noises do not get in while allowing for a comfortable fit. The design, Apple says, is 23% smaller and 17% lighter to the previous generation Powerbeats 3 earbuds, and includes adjustable hooks holding the buds in place.

Performance is also improved through the same H1 chip powering the latest AirPods, while an upgraded linear piston driver leverages pressurised airflow to create a "powerful acoustic response. The H1 chip enables voice-activated "Hey Siri" functionality, and the addition of two beam-forming microphones on each side promises crisp and clear phone calls. The earbuds pair with both iOS and Android devices via Class 1 Bluetooth technology.

Apple claims battery life clocks at around 9 hours on a single charge, and can be extended to over 24 hours through the included charging case. A Fast Fuel feature provides 1.5 hours of use after 5 minutes of charging. The charging case, however, does not support wireless charging, meaning one has to connect it to the mains via included Lightning cable.

The Powerbeats Pro ship from May 2019 in a choice of black, white, dark green and navy blue colours.
