US-Chinese startup EcoFlow presents an interesting take on the power pack-- the River Bank, a battery solution with a stackable design, allowing one to add more power or ports as they require.
The main River Bank module is a 99Wh battery with x4 Quick Charge USB ports (x2 USB-A, x2 USB-C) and a 10W Qi surface able to wirelessly charge up to x5 devices simultaneously. According to the company it has enough power to charge a laptop twice or a phone 9-15 times. Users can add even more power through addition of one of two submodules, one featuring a car jump-starter and the other an AC jack.
The Car Jumper submodule adds a USB-C port, a car jump-starter and brings total capacity of 145Wh (300W of power). The other submodule also adds a USB-C port, together with an AC jack and a total of 198Wh (51200mAh) power with 400W output, enough to allow mobile use of devices such as a a guitar amp, projector or power tools.
Such a modular design is worthy of note since it allows customers to sidestep EASA restrictions-- currently one cannot carry a power pack with a power rating over 100Wh on a plane without prior airline approval. As such, while huge 400Wh batteries already exist on the market, one cannot take them in the air.
The River Bank battery ships to European markets on either June or July 2018.
