American low-cost HDTV maker Vizio may soon enter the smarpthone market through to a partnership with Foxconn, Chinatechnews reports.
Such a device will apparently be first launched in the Chinese market in 2013, and will be produced by Foxconn subsidiary Fujiconn. Foxconn already makes HDTVs for Vizio, who has over 60% share of the over 60-inch HDTV market in N. America.
The company presented an 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet at CES 2013.
The Vizio story is best described as stranger than fiction-- founded in 2003 by plane crash survivor William Wang, the company is one of the largest sellers of HDTVs in N. America, with over $2.5 billion in revenue. It also started making PCs in 2012, with hopes to disrupt a business dominated by the likes of HP, Lenovo and Dell.
