iControl Connects With Autos

Smart home provider iControl Networks gets a first OpenHome Partner Program member with connected auto experience-- connected-car service developer Zubie.

Zubie AutoThe two companies say the partnership will bring about "connected lifestyle" solutions unifying home automation, cars and phones into a single customer experience-- such as switching thermostats off as customers leave the house in their vehicles, or doors unlocked and lights turned on upon return.

Another example is a home dashboard providing the real-time locations of family members on the road and emergency alerts.

Zubie sells a hardware device users plug into auto On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port. It connects with a companion smartphone app and provides safety alerts, real-time location data and vehicle diagnostics, even when the car is not running.

BlackBerry Intros Enterprise Services, Devices

Mobile World Congress 2014 sees BlackBerry refuse to throw the towel as it launches new services and products-- a new version of BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES), the enterprise BBM (eBBM) suite and the Z3 and Q20 handsets.

BBM MWCThe company claims BES12 unifies the best of BES10 and BES5 in one backwards-compatible platform. It allows the development and quick deployment of enterprise-grade app on BlackBerry and other devices, with flexible and scalable architecture handling secure movement from on-premise to the cloud.

It comes in two tiers-- Silver (includes device, app, email and security management for BlackBerry, iOS and Android devices) and Gold (adds Secure Work Space containerisation separating work and personal data).

Addressing recent NSA-fueled privacy concerns on messaging services is the eBBM suite, a mobile communications solution that "brings together the core strengths of BBM with features and capabilities aimed at enterprises." The first eBBM product is BBM Protected, a messaging service equipped with end-to-end communications encryption via symmetric encryption keys.

SnappyCamApple confirms the acquisition of SnappyLabs, the one-man team behind SnappyCam, an app allowing iPhone users to rapidly take high-resolution photos, for an undisclosed sum. 

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the company states to Re/Code.

As BlackBerry appears to be on the way out LG goes for a slice of the enterprise mobility market with Gate, a technology package combining the company's virtualisation, security and BYOD offerings. 

LG GateCurrently available for the G2 smartphone, Gate provides a "seamless" virtualisation experience by simultaneously running 2 operating systems (one handling personal data, the other business) on the same device. 

It also includes data encryption, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, VPN and jmobile device management (MDM) capabilities.
