Long teased by the company, the Velvet claims to feature a combination of distinctive design and "tactile" elegance. One such touch involves the "Raindrop" camera array, with three cameras and LED flash set in descending order by size on the upper-left corner of the device. The cameras in question feature a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 5MP depth sensor. A small central notch houses the 16MP front-facing camera.
]]>In terms of power, the 768G features a 2.8GHz Kryo 475 CPU, a performance boost of around 15% compared to the 2.4GHz CPU inside the 765G. The Adreno 620 GPU offers a similar performance boost of around 20% over the previous chip, with 120Hz support at 1080p resolutions. Meanwhile upgradeable GPU driver support allows developers and customers to fine-tune visual performance, similar to the day one can with gaming PCs.
]]>Based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 platform, the Edge+ is a 6.7-inch number with a display set at a cinematic 21:9 screen ratio. The "Endless Edge" display wraps nearly 90-degrees around both sides of the device, and handles HDR10+ content and a 90Hz refresh rate. Also found inside the device are 12GB DDR5 RAM, 256GB storage (expandable via microSD card) and a big 5000mAh battery the company claims powers up to 2 full days of use on a single charge. The battery offers both wired and wireless charging, and can even charge other devices through wireless power sharing. The body is IP54 water-repellent, and includes a 3.5mm jack together with a pair of Waves-tuned speakers.
]]>Aimed as a replacement for the iPhone 8, the current Apple smartphone of choice for budget-conscious customers, the iPhone SE features not only the aforementioned A13 Bionic chip, but also what the company claims is the "best single-camera system ever in an iPhone." The 12MP rear-facing shooter uses the capabilities of the A13 Bionic to offer an enhanced Portrait mode and Smart HDR for natural-looking images. Customers can also record 4K 60fps video and edit images using the "powerful" editing tools found in iOS 13.
]]>As the first of a smartphone range based around a new design philosophy (not to mention branding), Velvet features "evolutionary design departures." One example is the "Raindrop" camera. It has the three cameras and LED flash set in descending order by size on the upper-left corner of the device backside, a layout LG says is reminiscent of falling raindrops. The main camera sits slightly above the surface, while the two other lenses lie seamlessly beneath smooth glass.
]]>While most smartphones tout high refresh rates and fast chipsets, the A5 is a far more modest device. After all, while the front-lit 5.8-inch 1440 x 720 resolution display does indeed handle colour, it can only display 4096, a far cry from the millions LCD and OLED are capable of. Meanwhile the refresh rate is only impressive in comparison to other ePaper displays, and cannot handle video. However it does make for a great eReader, be it for text or comics.
]]>First seen back at CES 2020, the TCL smartphones carry displays made by the company itself (as opposed to by Samsung or LG Display) within a fairly standard design. The flagship offering in the series is the 10 Pro, a 6.47-inch headset with a fingerprint sensor built underneath the 2340 x 1080 resolution display. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 6GB memory and 128GB storage (expandable via microSD card). The quad-camera array on the back consists of a 64MP main sensor, a 16MP wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP for improved low-light performance. A teardrop notch on the top houses a 24MP selfie shooter.
]]>The Astro Slide appears to satisfy both modern and old-school sensibilities, since a "revolutionary" RockUp slider hinge reveals a physical QWERTY keyboard beneath the 6.53-inch touchscreen. The hinge even allows one to flip the display up when they slide out the keyboard, turning the device into a mini-laptop. Planet Computer says the keyboard makes the Astro Slide ideal for emails, messaging and editing documents, and the device runs on Android 10 with a multi-boot option offering Linux support.
]]>The Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are big smartphones featuring the same 6.67-inch AMOLED TrueColor 90Hz display, a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 5G connectivity. The main difference lies in storage and cameras, since while the regular Mi 10 has 128GB of storage and 48MP quad-camera array, the Pro ups the specs with 256GB of storage and a 108MP camera array with an 8K capture mode, 10x hybrid zoom and 50x digital zoom. Interestingly, the Mi 10 has a larger 4750mAh battery with 30W fast charging, as the Pro carries a 4500mAh battery, if one with faster 50W charging.
]]>Designed with support for multiple 5G network deployments, the Nokia 8.3 5G is the first device using the Qualcomm 5G RF Front end module solution. Part of the Snapdragon 765G chipset, it condenses over 40 RF components into a single module, allowing for future-proof connectivity. Also found in the 765G are two Cortex A76 cores and six A55 cores, making it slower than the highest-end Snapdragon SoC, the 865.
